Cooking in WoW Forever: leveling route and where the gold is

In Forever, cooks build the campfire every other camp feature needs. That makes Cooking more than a side skill, and Simple Wood a lot more interesting than it sounds.

Cooking used to be the profession you leveled while bored. In Forever it's the one that builds the fire. Every camp feature in the game, from Mana Wells to Fish Bowls, needs a campfire nearby, and campfires are cooking recipes.

That turns the cook into the person a group waits for. It also gives a handful of very cheap reagents a market they never had before.

What's new in Forever

44 of 133 recipes are new. The big change is the campfire ladder. A Basic Campfire at skill 1 holds 3 more camp features, a Journeyman Campfire at 53 holds 5, and an Expert Campfire at 182 holds 10. Each one takes a single piece of wood (Simple Wood, Star Wood, Thick Logs).

On top of that you get Cookie's Feast at 137 for a Stamina spread, and an Iron Oven at 300 that the top recipes need. The new food covers Intellect and Strength dishes, plus two lines of teas and smoothies. That's a lot of buff food for a game that used to have very little.

Shopping list

Nothing on this list is rare, and most of it you'll pick up while questing. The one to watch is White Spider Meat: the route wants 110 of it for Spider Sausage.

Skill route

The route is the familiar meat ladder: wolf, coyote, boar ribs, clams, spider. There's a new Spinefin Halibut step in the low 200s. Our data has nothing between 3 and 15, or between 260 and 295, so fill those with whatever recipe is still yellow for you.

Making gold while you level

Sell wood. Every campfire needs a piece of Simple Wood, Star Wood or Thick Logs, and so do half the camp features in other professions. If those turn out to be gathered rather than bought, a stack in launch week is worth watching.

Buff food has more buyers now. Intellect food, Strength food and the new teas fill gaps the old game left open. Raiders will want them, and so will people who just like sitting at a good camp.

Be the camp. A cook with an Expert Campfire is the reason a group's other camp buffs work at all. That won't put gold straight in your bags, but it gets you invited, and invites become sales.
